Created in clay bisque that is pit-fired, using straw and sawdust, creates distinct grass patterns, fire clouds, and rich sepia tones. Some of the urns have an additional hand coloring added in their own unique design, using metallic paints, oil sticks, acrylics, and textured powdered marble. The delicate surface is then fixed with a satin acrylic spray to protect the finish. The detail in this work is truly magnificent.

These are a few samples of the Spirit Keepers. These large organic creations can be placed inside or outside. The Sun and Moon will sit on a table or outdoors in the garden if you wish. They may also be commissions as a unique piece for a specific loved one, to capture his or her specific soul beauty.

Each Spirit Keeper has a small drawer where a lock of hair, photo, jewelry or memento may be kept. The drawer gives access to the body cavity that can hold the ashes. “I was aware of my need to honor a friend in a individual way, and realized others might have that need as well for their loved ones. Each is unique, which I hope might capture a quality of being in a loved one in some way.”

This striking jewel tone piece is reminiscent of great stained glass. The vessel itself is copper with a champleve enamel as its glaze. The lid is delicate, fabricated copper over enamel.
