Robert Chatelain
Robert Chatelain creates one of a kind vessels from native Vermont red maple, black cherry and box elder burl. He has developed a unique Hybrid Turning method to inlay the naturally occurring voids in the burl with colored resins and embedded gold or copper leaf.
Each vessel is a one-of-a-kind work of art that is created over a three month period. Natural edged openings in finely figured native Vermont burled and spalted wood is inlaid with pigmented resins and embedded metal leaf. Pieces are finished with paste wax, occasional buffing with a soft cloth is usually sufficient to maintain the shine.

The intrinsic beauty of wood is highlighted in these wonderful pieces. These one-of-a-kind cremation urns are hand turned on a lathe and then dried and finished. Every urn has a urethane finish that penetrates the wood to assure longevity and preserve the natural beauty. They are then buffed to a satin finish.
Each urn is unique in that the wood grains and hues take on their own patterns. Mr. Dean works exclusively with woods that are indigenous to the southeastern region of the US. If you appreciate nature, and love wood, you'll find these urns to be extraordinary!

This is one of the most exquisite wooden vessels we’ve seen yet! The round case sits on two graceful legs of ebony, which is also used at the top of the case as hinges for the doors which swing up and out diagonally. This outside shell opens to find a strikingly elegant vessel to hold the remains. Its unique shape, velvety smooth surface, and swirl patterns inherent in this wood combine to make this a stunning piece for any collector.
